Humidor Guitars

The Cuban Beauty is a one off guitar, with custom artwork by Cuban-American artist Daysi Rodriguez. This guitar has a maple neck topped by a red oak fingerboard and a Corian nut. The action is super low, perfect for finger playing but not for slide.

It is a three string model in a 24″ scale, and is equipped with a piezo pickup for use with an amplifier.

The artwork is covered with a layer of acrylic, possibly modge podge or decoupage. As such, it has dampened the acoustic abilities of the lid somewhat, so that it has a treble sound to it, similar to a banjo. If you are looking for a deep baritone sound, this ain’t it. It does sound better through an amp, and an effects pedal would make it sound even better.

This guitar is offered for sale for $200 USD, with $20 shipping in the lower 48 states.

I can build to suit if you like. I can make 3 or 4 string models, fretted or fretless, right or left handed, and might be able to accommodate a request for a specific box, or box type, color etc. It depends on availability.

I had been wanting to dabble in making something a little more “exotic” than the builds I normally do. I found a nice, larger sized box, a Fuente Queen B. I built a neck from scratch out of some nice maple I found at the Home Depot. The fingerboard is made from 1/4 inch thick purple heart wood from a local woodworking store.

This guitar also boasts:

Gibson Firebird style headstock
Wilkinson Vintage tulip head tuners
Gold fret wire
Gold 4 string Telecaster style adjustable hard bridge
Six string magnetic pickup, with tone and volume control
Gold knobs with black pearl inlays

It has a nice low action which could be raised up for playing slide if desired. I currently have it strung as a tenor guitar, E-B-G-D, but I may also try some other 4 string open tuning.

Just a note to say that I have been busy with my regular job, and have not posted much here lately, but that will change shortly. I also attended the Pennsylvania Cigar Box Guitar festival, and sold all my inventory, plus I received orders for a handful more. So I have been busy filling orders and have not been able to build enough CBGs to post for sale here. Again, that should change shortly.

I used bamboo skewers from the grocery store for tines. They sound OK, but not very loud. But, I did put a pickup in it so I can plug it into an amp.
